Hello family and friends!!! ️
Wow, the work here is so much different than the work in Fletcher. We are teaching so many people and working hard on having daily contact with ALL of our investigators. It's working really good. One of the things that has helped us find new people to teach is by teaching while we're finding. In other words, when we talk with someone on the street, instead of telling them about us and asking when we can come by, we get to know them and then apply some principle of the gospel, plan of salvation or restoration to their life. Then we leave them with a commitment and close with a prayer. It's awesome when we get to set up a return appointment with them. There was a baptism this Sunday but it wasn't a convert baptism. It was the baptism of an 8 year old girl whose mother is less active and her father is our investigator. But we've been teaching her everything as if she were an investigator. Their family is super sweet and have a really nice house with an in-ground pool in the backyard.
I've learned so much from hermana Westergard. It's cool to see how the both of us have improved so much since being together. It's like we're back "bigger and better." Haha. But there's still so much to learn and improve on. I've also learned a lot about teaching people, not lessons. We're working on applying every principle we teach specifically to the person and how it can help them with their specific questions, trials, doubts, etc. It works really well!
We had like 30 lesson this week. That's probably more than I had in Fletcher within almost a month! We also got 8 new investigators this week. The people in this area are SO prepared. Unlike glendale, a lot of the people here speak Spanish and they're all super nice and open. Even if they're not interested, they say it nicely. Like this one lady wasn't interested but said she'd call us and invite us over for dinner one day.
This week, one of our trials was bike problems!!! Hermana Westergard's bike got a flat tire two days in a row after replacing her tube. Then...when I got back from exchanges we started riding our bikes to church when I realized my back tire was completely flat!!! We realized that both of the caps to my tire and one of hers were missing, so air was leaking out of our tires. We had to stop and pump them up. Not sure what we're going to do. Tuesday we'll probably go buy new caps to put on it so the air won't leak out!!! But, we've had a good, SUPER busy week other than that.
I had my first exchange this Friday (doesn't happen often that you have to do it your first week as sister trainer but it was an exception). I learned SO MUCH on exchanges. I went to Covina on exchanges. I learned so much from the Hermana I stayed with. She was in the second transfer of training. She'd been going through so many of the same things as I went through during training. I know that exchange was inspired. I had been praying before the transfer that God would give me more opportunities to serve others. I know this calling was the answer to that prayer! I am grateful for the challenges I'd had with previous companions, because I know it was preparing me for this calling. There is so much to the calling of a sister trainer that I wasn't aware of. On top of helping all the hermanas, exchanges, mission leadership counsel meetings, teaching in zone conference, etc. we also have lots of work in our own area. We have a few investigators with baptismal dates.
There is a woman we found this week who was a member referral. She is SO prepared and lost her spouse a month ago. But as we taught the POS and applied it specifically to her, she was able to feel the spirit and find hope and accepted a baptismal date for later this month!
God really does work miracles when we have faith! And when we're obedient.
I love you all and hope you have an awesome week! If you want to know anything else about my new area, ask me!
PS: I thought it seemed like a pretty safe area, but I guess the bishop said some thing about how there is a lot of crime here...I guess we just never see it.
Well I love y'all and miss you!!!
